Attended the swearing in ceremony for Mark Dybul as the U.S. AIDS
Coordinator with the Rank of Ambassador at the State Department (Benjamin Franklin Room). Presiding was Secretary Condi Rice with Laura Bush present. I was given a “seat of honor” in the first row – sat next to Michael Gerson (former speech-writer for Pres. Bush). During her remarks, Condi specifically mentioned me – telling the story of how this all started (PEPFAR) years ago when the POTUS had his staff including Condi in the Oval Office and the POTUS was told by Tony Fauci, who is here with us today, that a lot of progress has been made in the treatment of HIV disease so that we could have a global impact. The day was a beautiful Fall day – bright sun and 75 F.
