Anthony S. Faucidiary entry
Global USA Communiation between Deb Birx and me on June 18: Thank you. I haven’t been sleeping because of this. What do you think about going into MS with Lumina as the diagnostic sequencer and massive tracking molecularly? Sent from my iPhone On Jun 18, 2020, at 7:26 AM, Fauci, Anthony (NIH/NIAID) [E] <afauci@niaid.nih.gov> wrote (read from bottom to top): As you recall, I have always been in favor of massive testing. Now is the time. We are swimming in the dark. Let us discuss at the TF tomorrow. Anthony S. Sent from my iPhone I have been obsessing about the increases in cases that do not seem to be related to openings or closings or massive crowds. I believe that ultimately we will see increases related to all of the above; however, right now we may be looking for the lost keys under the light of the lamppost. There is something inherent here that we are missing and that is insidiously keeping the outbreak alive in the USA, and that is more concerning than anticipated spikes associated with identifiable events. Bob let me know where exactly you went as we need to ensure surge to the next set of States next week. The reason I pushed back on calling it “just reopening” because it implies it just a thing and everything is just cases we expected but I think this is serious and specific populations especially the underdiagnosed Hispanic communities are at enormous risk. Tony and Bob, I need your teams to explore pools of 10 on thermofisher and Roche. We need to be able to tst 10X right now in communities when you get your team on the ground. We also need creative ways for housing and work among asymptomatics – ie working and housing in teams to decrease spread. Open to all discussion. Hopefully we can meet and strategize tomorrow. We need a breakthrough in masks. Pulled 2 paper but maybe we can strengthen guidance. Also sending the antibody paper. Deb Amazing interview with Bobv Cousy who praises me so wonderfully: http://hoopshd.com/2020/06/17/a-couple-of-crusaders-hoopshd-interviews-bob-cousyabout-dr-anthony-fauci/ Selected quotes from Cousy: Dr. Fauci has become even more well-known this year during his press conferences as a member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force: what is it about him that causes the country to trust him? He gets offstage as quickly as possible, which is an attribute I admire greatly. I am not trying to share his spotlight but over the past few decades when someone asked who my heroes were I would say Dr. Tony Fauci. Lately I have added Bryan Stevenson to the list after reading his book “Just Mercy” about 5 years ago. Tony spent his career at NIH simply helping people with his intellect/knowledge/desire. I think that he is the most unassuming superstar and just wants to help the world. I would like to think that he was engendered with that philosophy by the Jesuits. Got call from Chris Wallace at Fox News saying he has been trying to get me on his show for weeks and wanted to know how I was doing. I told him to keep trying and maybe he will get it. Michael Caputo called me and told me that the Comms people in the WH want to keep me off TV until next week because of my message that is contrary to the VP and POTUS – no kidding. OWS meeting today talking about modelling where the infections are going to surge for the vaccine trial. Monsaoui met with Pfizer who said that would sell the vaccine for $100/dose. This is a non-starter. A price should be ~$25/dose. During this emergency, we can take over Pfizer or invoke the Defense Production Act (DFA) and dictate the price, and so we have a “hammer” with them. I have been speaking about the danger of states/cities leap-frogging over the progressive checkpoints in the guidelines to “Open America Again” as well as the danger of those in states who trying to do it right now wearing masks and/or congregating in crowds. And sure enough, we are now having significan increases in cases and hospitalization in FL, TX, AZ, OK. Particukarly problematic in OK where the Trump campaign rally is taking place tomorrow in Tulsa. My comments about the difficulty in getting the football season going this Fall and Winter has been very widely overed in the Sports Press PRESS: McLatchey print interview – Michael Wilner; Washington Post Podcast with Allie Caren; Dan Patrick Sports News – TV; Vice News TV; Correire Della Sera print interview; Financial Times – HIV compared to COVID-19
