This was preceded by a preparatory meeting among the HHS team led by Andrea Palm. During that meeting Andrea got very upset with Henry Walke and Rochelle of CDC Because they were falling into the same trap as they did with COVID when they were indicating that they will likely go into slow walk the availability of diagnostics. It seems that the CDC just has not learned a lesson at all about the catastrophe regarding the availability of diagnostics during COVID. During the meeting with the deputies, my role was to tell them about the 100 doses of the Sudan ebola vaccine that we have at the VRC. it was a lot of discussion about everything from isolation to travel to availability of interventions to dealing with the Ugandans. There are currently no cases outside of Uganda in cases have been confined to four provinces in Uganda. There was a concern that the neighboring countries of Rwanda and DRC are vulnerable. Also, there was considerable discussion about how we would handle the entry of potentially or actually infected patients from Uganda into the country. Approximately 140 people a day fly in to the United states indirectly from Uganda since there are no direct flights from Uganda to the United States. JAMA news article by Len Strazewski: Dr. Fauci stood up for science when it counted. What’s next? Other variants are starting to evolve such as BA.4.6, BF.7 and BA.2.75.2:
