Global – 119,600,000/2,600,000; USA -29,300,000/532,400 Got call tonight from Larry Horowitz saying that Drew Weissman and his collaborator are planning to hold a press conference to discuss their studies in mice showing that an intramuscular injection of the mRNA vaccine leads to an immune response in the amniotic fluid of the pups in a pregnancy model. The FDA has already received the DART (Development and Reproductive Toxicology) studies from Moderna and Pfizer. According to Emily these studies were clean. The FDA has heard about the Weissman studies and feels that they are invalid. The two companies also feel that the studies are invalid. However, we cannot blow them off for obvious reasons. Even if the Weissman studies prove to be invalid, the fact that they are holding a press conference is going to create a huge mess. Hopefully, we can get this sorted out and have a repeat of studies to counter this finding. More later. Jeff Zients has heard about this and called me tonight at 9:30 PM. I told him we have to get the FDA out their showing that they have DART studies and explaining what their studies showed. Cases coming down: Yet Europe is seeing an upswing of cases resulting mostly from B.1.1.1.7: Today I received on a virtual zoom the Ivan Alan Award for Social Courage given by Georgia Tech University and it's President doctor Angel Cabrera. There was a video about my accomplishments and Rochelle Walensky joined us to celebrate the award. Rochelle was very generous in calling me her hero, her mentor, and her friend. I should point out at this point that Rochelle has become closer and closer to me in our very collegial relationship. In addition, I should point out that I have been getting a number of awards and prizes that I had not even documented in these notes. It is a shame that things are moving so quickly that I don't even have time to savor for a moment the many awards that I have been getting.
